Uttarkhand, a new state, was carved out of Uttar Pradesh.
It now enters its forth year of existence. In spite of its different geographical conditions, the state is moving towards progress. It lies in the Northern part of India amidst dense forests and the inspiring Himalayas. It has scenic beauty and a pleasant climate. This new State has Himachal Pradesh in the North-West, Uttar Pradesh in its South. International borders with China and Nepal lies in the North-Eastern region of Uttarakhand. The State may be grouped into three geographical regions: high mountains, mid-mountains and Terai and Dehradun as its Provisional capital.
Uttarakhand's the land of popular myths has history as old as Ramayana and Mahabharata. Garhwal and Kumaon are the two main cultural regions of Uttarakhand,evidenced by a variety of landforms viz. Snow peaks, black mountains, steep escarpments, deep gorges, hanging valleys , glaciers and lakes, numerous gushing streams and swift cascading, falling , foaming rivers, and lush green meadows..
